PREPARATION TIPS: THINGS TO PRACTICE AT HOME

Having your child perform “pretend recitals” for you at home is a WONDERFUL way to help them prepare and understand what to expect at the show.
Have them practice these steps in order:

  1. From their assigned seat in the front row, walk up to the piano or mic, as appropriate. While they are walking, the teacher will be announcing their name and what they will be playing.
  2. Place your music on the stand if you are using your music.
  3. Sit down and place your fingers on the appropriate keys for the song.
  4. Play your piece just like you did in practice. If you make a mistake, don’t stop and start over. Just keep going and pretend it didn’t even happen. More than likely, the audience won’t even know!
  5. When you finish, stand up, leaving your sheet music/book up on the piano.
  6. Bow or curtsey. Look out at the audience and smile. J
  7. Get your sheet music/book and go backstage.

Please review with your children that when they are in the audience, there is to be no talking and no running around. They are to sit quietly where asked.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR THE RECITAL DAY
- Students need to be dressed up (a dress, skirt or very nice pants for the girls; nice pants and a nice shirt for the boys). No jeans or shorts!
- Students MUST bring their assigned pieces with them so they can perform with the sheet music they are used to using. The teacher will NOT have extra copies of everyone’s music to use. Children should bring their sheet music/book EVEN if they have their piece memorized, just in case they want to take a peek before playing.
- If your child is using their printed music, please copy the pages they are using and mount them on white or black construction paper, or a manila folder. This will ensure that your child, who has worked very hard for this day, will receive all of the attention, not their neon-colored music book.
-You should arrive at the school 10-15 minutes early. However, please do not enter the building more than 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
- It is appropriate for all families to stay for the entire recital unless you have an extreme emergency.

Recitals
We are known for our recitals!
Learn Piano in Your Home offers an exceptional recital/concert experience for the student. Although participation is not mandatory, each student is strongly encouraged to perform as our recitals are the highlight of the year and serve to provide motivation for even the most "stage shy" student.

Recitals are held in local auditoriums, with a maximum or 40-50 students per show. We use smaller auditoriums and performance halls/rooms to create an intimate, less-threatening atmosphere for our students and their parents.

Winter and Summer recitals are held if there is enough student interest in your area. In addition, we combine recitals with community service by offering organized performing opportunities at nursing homes and retirement apartments.
